What inspired you to take on your first Inspired Adventure?

As a busy mum, wife, employee and business owner, I had forgotten what it was that made me, me! I felt a little lost with who I was, and when I saw a post on facebook about this trek, I immediately knew this was something I had to do. It is an added bonus that I am able to go on an amazing, once in a lifetime adventure and raise money for an amazing charity at the same time. Win/win situation!

What are your total funds raised so far? Are there any key fundraising ideas that have been the bulk of your success?

I have raised $4,782 so far. I have been approaching local businesses and asking them to come on board as sponsors and in return I am advertising their business on my personal and trekking facebook pages, in our local newspaper and on my fundraising page. I am also getting a shirt made up with all my sponsors on it to wear during training and the trek.

What have been some of the highlights of your fundraising experience so far?

Myself and fellow trekker, Heidi Jones, organised a 27km walk from Heidi’s hometown to mine as part of a training exercise. When family and friends heard about this, they decided they wanted to walk with us. We ended up with approximately 30 walkers on the day (even though it rained all day), and together we raised just over $1,000 for BCNA.

What have been your biggest challenges in taking on an Inspired Adventure? How did you overcome this?

The two biggest challenges for me are improving my fitness and overcoming that voice in my head that says I can’t do it. I have not overcome this completely, but I am working towards it by training often and when I do I push myself outside of my comfort zone, and keep going even when I want to quit.

Have you noticed any changes or transformation in your life since taking on your first adventure?

I am completely obsessed with this adventure. I am constantly thinking about raising money or training and I feel that my life is being consumed by this, and I love it!

What advice would you offer to other people looking to complete a challenge like this?

Ensure you give yourself enough time before the challenge to prepare yourself physically and mentally if you are not naturally an adventurer. I am so glad I have another 10 months to work on myself before my adventure. Make sure you have a good support crew, my friends and family have been amazing, but I have to say a special thankyou to my husband Shannon and my children Bradley and Abbie because they support me 100%.
