In 1942, the Kokoda Track area was the scene for bitter fighting. Today, walking the track has become a pilgrimage for many Australians, and those honouring the ANZAC spirit and our shared history with PNG.
One of the world’s greatest treks, the Kokoda Track links the south and north coast of Papua New Guinea across 96 kilometres of rugged mountain terrain, tropical rainforest and unspoiled villages.
As part of this incredible adventure, you will trek the track by day, open to the harsh and inspiring beauty of Papua New Guinea’s tropical rainforest. At night you will stay in secluded camps, sharing stories with locals and falling asleep to the nocturnal sounds of the jungle. You will also take part in a special project visit, where you can visit Femili PNG’s acclaimed case management centre and see firsthand the life-changing work your funds make possible.
Not for the faint-hearted, this truly is a once-in-a-lifetime adventure on which, with every step you take, you will raise vital funds to help support survivors of family and sexual violence to access the critical services they need.
The funds you raise in this challenge will help Femili PNG to provide quality case management services to survivors of family and sexual violence in Papua New Guinea. Funds raised will cover critical costs such as food, clothing and shelter for women and children who are fleeing violence.
Your money can and will make a difference. $30 can pay for two days of emergency food for a survivor.
Sometimes we have to arrange emergency accommodation for our clients, especially if safe house capacity is unavailable. $110 will pay for emergency accommodation and food for one night, $220 for two nights.
Our most important assets are our case workers. They support survivors to get what they want. Our case workers are an outstanding group of brave women, who work hard to serve their clients, all for a very modest pay package. $400 can pay a case worker’s salary for one week.
