What inspired you to take on your first Inspired Adventure?

My friend Jake told me about the challenge after he signed up. Jake has his own foundation that works with young adults and speaking with him about the adventure inspired me to want to take on the challenge and make a difference.

Why did you choose to fundraise for AMF?

I was raised by just my mum and she fostered children who had been displaced from their homes due to domestic violence. This meant I was very aware from a young age the effect domestic violence has on children and how important support is for these children.

You are clearly really involved and invested in the art of giving back to the community, what do you think is so exciting about being able to take on an adventure as well as give to a cause you care about?

You get to have an incredible experience and after all the hard work fundraising you get a reward at the end as well as helping a good cause.

“Don’t be afraid to take the leap, it's hard work but you won’t regret it, it’s addictive!”

What are your total funds raised so far? Are there any key fundraising ideas that have been the bulk of your success?

I have raised so far $2,766. I am still fundraising to get to my target. I am going to ask a friend who plays AFL to sign a jersey to raffle off this should bring me to the $3,500 target.

I’d say following up on people’s offers of donations made a big difference. Once they said they would donate I kept it at the front of their minds by getting in touch with direct asks, don’t be afraid to contact and chase your supporters and hold them to their word.

Another key to getting a high number of donations is using all your networks. My work network were very generous with their donations. Use your community don’t be afraid to ask for help- encourage your supporters to donate by telling them to advertise they are helping you help a cause.

What have been some of the highlights of your fundraising experience so far?

People engaging in the challenge and the cause, getting behind me and following my journey before, during and after the adventure.

What have been your biggest challenges in taking on an Inspired Adventure? How did you overcome this?

Finding time to fundraise and get ready for the trip. I have a really busy work schedule that made it hard to put the time in that was really required to raise the money.

I would definitely recommend setting time aside each week for fundraising activities and admin and making sure you stick to it!

Have you noticed any changes or transformation in your life since taking on your first adventure?

Yes! It’s made me want to give back to good causes much more. I’ve actually been so inspired by my experience that I’m going to try and run my own adventure with Jake and his foundation, OTLR, to make a difference to the young adults the foundation supports. I’ve also learnt a lot about myself from taking on this challenge.
