Every year, travel companies come out with a list of their top travel destinations. Places you must see, things you must do, food you must eat and experiences you must, well, experience.

At Inspired, when deciding on a travel destination, we think you should listen to—wait for it—you! And so does Robert Reid, travel writer for Lonely Planet and The New York Times…

So if your New Year’s resolution is to squeeze more adventure out of the coming year, how can you decide on the best destination? We don’t have adventures to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, but we can help you narrow down your options.

Heeding Robert’s sound advice, when choosing your next adventure destination, we recommend that you consider the following:

A gravel road adventure

A gravel road conjures images of undiscovered terrain; of a path destined for unknown wonders. Perhaps it leads to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro; maybe it winds through the countryside of Cambodia and Vietnam. Wherever it leads, the journey is always as good as the destination. They key is deciding what you seek. Who knows, one road may lead to many more.

A new and near adventure

This year (and in 2016) we are delighted to partner with Australian charities on Australian adventures. From the exquisite wilderness of the Kimberley region in Western Australia to the desolate beauty of the Larapinta Trail through the Northern Territory, you can now take on the adventure-of-a-lifetime without leaving the country.

As a business that promotes the benefits of ethical travel overseas, the ability to provide such adventures in Australia, to benefit the Australian community, is very exciting.

So if you’re not interested in the fuss of visas and passports, why not consider a staycation instead?

A childhood bucket list adventure

This might be our favourite way to decide on your next adventure travel destination. We all have that place (or those places) we have longed to visit since childhood. Ask your 12-year-old self what one place would you go, and set about making that kid’s dream come true.
