Join the The Bloody Long Trek to help support people affected by mito

Winding its way across the north of China, from the Yellow Sea to the Gobi Desert, the Great Wall of China is one of mankind’s most impressive accomplishments. As part of this adventure, you’ll travel through history to the very heart of China’s ancient culture.

Over five days, you’ll trek between mist-covered mountains, through local villages and across rolling farmlands. With the support of expert guides, you’ll explore the many facets of the Great Wall, deciphering the ancient stories and poems etched into its watchtowers, every brick seeming to tell a story of war and adventure.

Swapping the majesty of the Great Wall for the hustle and bustle of Beijing, you will discover this great city’s confounding and contrasting culture. Immerse yourself in the ancient history of the Forbidden City and experience the poignancy of Tiananmen Square.

Best of all, with every step you take you will raise vital funds to support AMDF’s essential support services, research into a cure, and education about mitochondrial disease.

Living with mito is hard. It robs the body’s cells of energy causing multiple organ dysfunction or failure. Many sufferers spend extended periods in hospital and even getting out of bed can be a huge challenge.

In support of those that can’t, will you take on the challenge of the Great Wall of China?

Each step you take will raise funds to help support people affected by mito, whether going through the diagnostic process (which can take years), dealing with the disease each day, or coming to terms with the loss of a loved one. AMDF offers direct support through our helpline, facilitating peer-to-peer support and providing information through a range of channels about the disease, medical specialists, government support and much more.

There is no cure for mito and few effective treatments, so research into this devastating disease is paramount. Funds raised through The Bloody Long Trek will help to support research into diagnosis, prevention, treatment and ultimately a cure for this debilitating disease.

Every step you take on the Great Wall will take us closer to a cure.
