“An amazing, life-changing and humbling experience!”

Amy, Larapinta 2018

Trek the Larapinta Trail to help CBM Australia end the cycle of poverty and empower children living with disabilities.

In May 2023, you’re invited to journey across the heart of Australia, along one of the world’s premier walking tracks. Immersed in the rich history of Australia’s First Peoples, as part of Step Up for Clubfoot, you’ll follow well-worn, red dirt tracks along the slopes of the West MacDonnell Ranges, beside winding riverbanks, across open plains, up towering mountains and down into shaded gorges.

Past Ormiston Gorge and majestic Mount Sonder, you’ll conquer one of the world’s premier desert treks, through scenic and historic landscapes made famous by Albert Namatjira’s paintings.

At night, you’ll camp under black skies filled with silver stars, and fall asleep to the nocturnal sounds of the desert. Best of all, with every step you take, you’ll raise vital funds to promote the early detection and treatment of orthopaedic problems in children living in poverty, giving them the opportunity to play, grow and build brighter futures.

Can you imagine the pain of walking on top of your feet, bearing down with all your weight, all day, every day? For 6 year old Karebu, severe clubfoot meant every step he took was agony. He wanted to go to school – but at four kilometres away, the pain was too great to bear. He wanted to play with the children in his village – but they were afraid of his upturned feet.

That was until Karebu received his life-changing surgey thanks to the kindness of wonderful supporters just like you. Now Karebu is not only engaged in school, he’s helping around the house, playing with new friends and building a brighter future free from poverty.

As part of Step Up for Club Foot, you’ll raise vital funds to detect and treat orthopaedic conditions in children just like Karebu, giving them the opportunity to play, be included and reach their full potential.

• Just $19 pays for a pair of crutches for a child before and after treatment so they can start to move freely and make the distance to school
• $65 covers the cost of a plaster cast after surgery, helping straighten bowed legs
• From $80, a child can receive a life-changing prosthetic
• $100 pays for a walker and $150 covers the cost of a wheelchair
• $1,250 pays for corrective surgery for a life free from pain

When detected early, orthopaedic conditions in childhood are treatable. We’re working tirelessly to identify and treat children with disabilities living in poverty around the world. But we need your help.

How challenging is this adventure?

This adventure is ranked 3/5. While no extensive trekking experience is required prior to registering, our adventures are specifically designed for people who are relatively fit and willing to train. The Larapinta trek is a physical challenge, and the fitter you are, the more you’ll enjoy the experience.

You’ll be well supported on the adventure, with the guides and your team all cheering you on. You’re free to move at your own pace and we’ll take frequent breaks.

How do I fundraise?

Never fundraised before? Not sure where to start? No worries, we don’t expect you to do it alone. You will have regular support from the Inspired Adventures fundraising team, who will help you make a fundraising plan to meet your target. Alongside personalised coaching, we will also send you lots of ideas and resources on how to fundraise. From online fundraising to trivia nights, to bake sales and out-of-the-box ideas, we have years and years of tried and tested tips to make your fundraising a success.

Who will I be travelling with?

We believe small group travel is better for the planet, and better for you. Our adventures usually have 10 – 20 people aged from 18 to 90+ (younger ages considered on request). You can be sure that you have all come together with the shared purpose of making a difference to others and having the adventure of a lifetime.

The group will be led by a local tour guide with expert knowledge of the region. Many groups will also be accompanied by an Inspired Adventures team leader or doctor to support and motivate the team.

Where applicable, a charity representative may also join the team. This is a wonderful opportunity to learn more about your chosen charity and their work.

Do I need to have travel insurance?

Travel insurance is highly recommended for domestic adventures, to cover cancellation, hospital, emergency evacuation and lost luggage. We advise that you purchase your policy as soon as possible. It’s up to you to ensure you have fully comprehensive travel insurance and you’ll need to share these details with our team before departure. For more information, please visit www.inspiredadventures.com.au/travel-insurance-information.

We understand the dilemma of making travel plans when the world feels unpredictable right now. You can still register for an Inspired Adventure in complete confidence, because we promise to look after you should COVID-19 travel bans affect your plans.

If COVID-19 travel bans mean your Inspired Adventure cannot go ahead as scheduled, we will endeavour to reschedule the departure to a later date to allow you still to travel as planned.

Inspired Adventures no longer requires that all travellers are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 for this adventure.

For more information please refer to the COVID-19 hub on our website.
