Join us on an epic journey of self-discovery and a physical challenge like no other

As part of CCA’s El Camino Trek, you will join a group of inspiring individuals dedicated to supporting all Australians affected by Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis.

On arrival in Madrid, Spain’s bustling capital city, you will set off on a guided tour, exploring the city’s highlights from past to present. You will then travel beyond city limits to embark on the Camino de Santiago. The Camino follows an ancient pilgrimage route across northern Spain to the cathedral at Santiago de Compostela.

From Sarria to Santiago, you will trek under the shade of old oak trees into peaceful hamlets set against the rolling green backdrop of Galicia. At night, you will experience Spain’s colourful culture and cuisine.

With a focus on finding inner strength, we will be walking in the footsteps of the Romans, pilgrims and modern day adventurers—breathing in the fresh air, taking in the views and reflecting on our personal journey.

Best of all, with every step you take, with every kilometre you cover, you will raise vital funds to help CCA make life more liveable for people with IBD.

Research has found IBD has increased significantly in recent decades, particularly in the western world. The severity of the condition has also worsened, and more young people are now being diagnosed.

Studies have found the prevalence of IBD in Australia is high compared to other countries, with close to 100,000 Australians expected to be living with the condition by 2022.

Over the next three years, CCA is overseeing a nationwide audit of IBD care across the hospital sector, and expanding our reach into rural and regional areas.

At present, the quality of IBD care received is determined by a person’s postcode and ease of access to gastroenterology services. Funds raised through the Crohn’s & Colitis El Camino Trek will help CCA to deliver programs that ensure all Australians have access to high quality and consistent care, no matter where they live.
