Join the El Camino Trek to Fight Cystic Fibrosis

Cystic fibrosis is a degenerative condition that affects the lungs and digestive system. Regular physical activity or exercise provides multiple benefits for people living with CF. These benefits are more than improved lung function — they also help to strengthen bones, manage diabetes and heart disease and improve emotional wellbeing.

That’s why we invite you to join us on the El Camino Trek to Fight CF and help us on our mission to provide all of our members with access to life-giving nebulisers!

As part of this incredible adventure, over 10 days you will discover the many wonders of Spain. On arrival in Madrid, Spain’s bustling capital city, you will set off on a guided tour, exploring the city’s highlights from past to present. You will then travel beyond city limits to embark on the Camino de Santiago.

From Sarria to Santiago, you will trek under the shade of old oak trees into peaceful hamlets set against the rolling green backdrop of Galicia. At night, you will experience Spain’s colourful culture and cuisine.

But best of all, with every step you take, with every kilometre you cover, you will raise vital funds to help Cystic Fibrosis Queensland improve the quality of life for those with CF.

An adult living with cystic fibrosis will spend up to two hours in physiotherapy each day clearing the mucus and infection from their lungs. Not only to breathe but to support overall health and wellbeing.

A portable nebuliser is light and compact and reduces the respiratory treatment for someone with CF from two hours to 20 minutes per day.

CFQ is on a mission to provide all of our members with a subsidy to go towards purchasing their own personal nebuliser. This respiratory equipment would provide our CF members with:

• Improved health management for people with CF, particularly in times of disease exacerbation
• Reduced duration and frequency of hospitalisation to manage CF
• Better quality of life and less social isolation for CF patients by reducing in-hospital days
• Improved health management compliance, necessary to maintain optimal health
• Reduced financial stress on families living with CF
