“An experience that will stay with me for life.”

Sallyanne Mowat, Inspired adventurer, 2019

A thriving rural paradise in the foothills of Queensland’s Great Dividing Range, the Scenic Rim has to be seen to be believed. And, as part of this epic two-day challenge, you will witness the epic beauty of the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Gondwana Rainforests – the most extensive region of subtropical rainforests in the world. Following world-class walks beside time-worn watering holes and waterfalls, along ancient escarpments and across volcanic plateaus, you’ll experience the combined native history of over 180 million years; from a time before Australia existed and this incredible rainforest covered one-fifth of the Earth’s surface.

On this incredible adventure, you’ll discover the majesty of Queensland’s Scenic Rim while raising vital funds to drive progress in therapeutic development and care for childhood dementia.

Right now, thousands of children are suffering and dying slowly with dementia – and most people don’t know even about it.

Globally, 700,000 children and young people are living with childhood dementia. 48,300 die prematurely each year.

75 per cent of these children have a life expectancy of 18 or less, with fewer than five per cent of childhood dementia disorders having any therapies. Care for these children and their families is often inadequate and inequitable. But why?

Silos: The 70+ rare genetic disorders are referred to, treated and researched in isolation

Awareness: When treated in silos, there is insufficient knowledge of the problem and its impact

Funding: With little understanding of the issue, there is a lack of investment in therapeutic development and care

As part of Childhood Dementia Initiative’s Scenic Rim Challenge you’ll drive progress in therapeutic development and care for childhood dementia.

Your fundraising and physical efforts will give children with dementia and their families the gift of time and targeted support as they navigate diagnosis, treatment and ongoing care.

No family should have to watch their child suffer and die from dementia. But there is still so much to do, and Childhood Dementia Initiative needs your support.

Please don’t leave childhood dementia to slowly kill more children.

How challenging is this adventure?

This adventure is ranked 3/5. While no extensive trekking experience is required prior to registering, our adventures are specifically designed for people who are relatively fit and willing to train. You’ll be well supported on the adventure, with the guides and your team all cheering you on. You’re free to move at your own pace and we will take frequent breaks.

How do I fundraise?

Never fundraised before? Not sure where to start? No worries, we don’t expect you to do it alone. You will have regular support from the Inspired Adventures fundraising team, who will help you make a fundraising plan to meet your target. Alongside personalised coaching, we will also send you lots of ideas and resources on how to fundraise. From online fundraising to trivia nights, to bake sales and out-of-the-box ideas, we have years and years of tried and tested tips to make your fundraising a success.

Who will I be travelling with?

We believe small group travel is better for the planet, and better for you. Our adventures usually have 10 – 20 people aged from 18 to 90+ (younger ages considered on request). You can be sure that you have all come together with the shared purpose of making a difference to others and having the adventure of a lifetime.

The group will be led by a local tour guide with expert knowledge of the region. Many groups will also be accompanied by an Inspired Adventures team leader or doctor to support and motivate the team.

Where applicable, a charity representative may also join the team. This is a wonderful opportunity to learn more about your chosen charity and their work.

Do I need to have travel insurance?

Travel insurance is highly recommended for domestic adventures, to cover cancellation, hospital, emergency evacuation and lost luggage. We advise that you purchase your policy as soon as possible. It’s up to you to ensure you have fully comprehensive travel insurance and you’ll need to share these details with our team before departure. For more information, please visit www.inspiredadventures.com.au/travel-insurance-information.

We understand the dilemma of making travel plans when the world feels unpredictable right now. You can still register for an Inspired Adventure in complete confidence, because we promise to look after you should COVID-19 travel bans affect your plans.

If COVID-19 travel bans mean your Inspired Adventure cannot go ahead as scheduled, we will endeavour to reschedule the departure to a later date to allow you still to travel as planned.

Inspired Adventures requires that all travellers are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 as described in government guidelines and ground operator requirements.

For more information please refer to the COVID-19 hub on our website.
