“I loved the walking, and the chance to meet other like minded people from other backgrounds/ roles and hear their stories. I hope to keep in touch with them all.”

— Verity Cooper, Climate Council’s Tarkine adventure 2021

Join Professor Lesley Hughes, renowned climate scientist, on Kangaroo Island to help the Climate Council propel Australia towards bold action to cut carbon emissions and reach net zero by 2035.

Just 45 minutes and 16 kilometres off the coast of the bustling city of Adelaide is the veritable wonderland of wildlife that is Kangaroo Island. As part of this incredible adventure, you’ll trek from Rocky River to Kelly Hill Caves – through eucalypt woodland, into limestone caves, beside crystal clear waters and between lichen-covered boulders.

By day, you’ll experience the resilience of this unique coastal ecosystem, as it continues to recover from the devastating 2019–20 bushfires, the largest recorded in the island’s history.

At night, you’ll stay in comfortable cabins in the company of like-minded companions committed to propelling Australia towards bold, effective climate action.

Every fraction of a degree of warming avoided will be measured in lives, species and ecosystems saved.

Australia has everything it needs to act swiftly and decisively to help avert climate catastrophe, and prosper in a global clean economy. Yet our emissions are among the highest in the world.

The Climate Council is fighting misinformation and pushing for urgent climate action, while also working to help prepare Australian communities for worsening extreme weather. And they need your support.

• $50 could create a rapid fire media release to respond to misinformation from politicians in the media and fight back with the facts

• $250 could fund our team to create compelling digital content and ensure it reaches a wide audience

• $2,500 could fund a media training session to empower everyday Australians to talk about their experiences of climate change and the urgency of our situation

• $5,000 could fund a new video highlighting the urgency for action and visually demonstrating the impacts of extreme weather fuelled by climate change

• $15,000 could fund meetings with key stakeholders for a year, including political decisions makers, communities affected by extreme weather – such as those on Kangaroo Island, First Nations communities and industries who can lead on climate action

• $20,000 could power the research and media launch of a new report

The Climate Council is driving home the urgency of the climate crisis through a loud drumbeat of cut-through voices and commentary about extreme weather and other climate impacts. But they need your continued support.

You can help the Climate Council educate more Australians about climate-driven extreme weather and lobby all levels of government to take immediate action.

You will have regular support from the Inspired Adventures fundraising team, who will help you make a fundraising plan to meet your target. Alongside personalised coaching, we will also send you lots of ideas and resources on how to fundraise. Who will I be travelling with?

We believe small group travel is better for the planet, and better for you. Our adventures usually have 10 – 20 people aged from 18 to 90+ (younger ages considered on request). You can be sure that you have all come together with the shared purpose of making a difference to others and having the adventure of a lifetime.

The group will be led by a local tour guide with expert knowledge of the region. Many groups will also be accompanied by an Inspired Adventures team leader or doctor to support and motivate the team.

Where applicable, a charity representative may also join the team. This is a wonderful opportunity to learn more about your chosen charity and their work.

Do I need to have travel insurance?

Travel insurance is highly recommended for domestic adventures, to cover cancellation, hospital, emergency evacuation and lost luggage. We advise that you purchase your policy as soon as possible. It’s up to you to ensure you have fully comprehensive travel insurance and you’ll need to share these details with our team before departure. We understand the dilemma of making travel plans when the world feels unpredictable right now. You can still register for an Inspired Adventure in complete confidence, because we promise to look after you should COVID-19 travel bans affect your plans.

If COVID-19 travel bans mean your Inspired Adventure cannot go ahead as scheduled, we will endeavour to reschedule the departure to a later date to allow you still to travel as planned.

Inspired Adventures requires that all travellers are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 as described in government guidelines and ground operator requirements.
