“I loved the walking, and the chance to meet other like minded people from other backgrounds/ roles and hear their stories. I hope to keep in touch with them all.”

— Verity Cooper, Climate Council’s Tarkine adventure 2021

In April 2022, you’re invited to trek the Tarkine to help the Climate Council propel Australia towards bold, effective action to cut carbon emissions and reach net-zero by 2035.

Join this incredible adventure and immerse yourself in the dappled density of pristine rainforests – home to giant man ferns and the playful, yet elusive platypus. Discover the barren beauty of Pieman Heads, where the Pieman River meets the Indian Ocean, and marvel at the majesty of Montezuma Falls.

Best of all, with every step you take, you’ll help power independent climate action.

Every fraction of a degree of avoided warming matters, and will be measured in lives, species and ecosystems lost or saved.

By joining the Tassie Trek for Climate Action 2022 and with every step you take within this unique and biologically diverse region, you’ll raise vital funds to support the Climate Council’s Urgency Campaign to fight misinformation with facts and push for urgent action at all levels of government.

Australia has everything it needs to act swiftly and decisively to help avert climate catastrophe and prosper in a clean economy. Yet our emissions are among the highest in the world.

We must do everything possible to profoundly and rapidly cut emissions, while also preparing for climate impacts that can no longer be avoided. Our response must match the scale and urgency of this worsening situation. But we need your support.

With funds raised by the Tassie Trek for Climate Action, Climate Council will:

• Rapidly respond to misinformation in the media and fight back with the facts.

• Create compelling digital content and ensure it reaches a wide audience.

• Run a media training session to empower everyday Australians to talk about their experience of climate change and the urgency of our situation.

• Produce a new video that highlights the urgency for action and visually demonstrates Australia’s capacity to implement solutions for a net zero emissions future.

• Publish a new research on international action and Australia’s net zero emissions pathway.

• Brief decision makers on the pathway to ensure Australia will be a leader in a net zero emissions future.

How challenging is this adventure?

This adventure is ranked 3/5. While no extensive trekking experience is required prior to registering, our adventures are specifically designed for people who are relatively fit and willing to train. The Climate Council Tarkine Trek is a physical challenge, involving trekking over 35 kilometres over five days. The fitter you are, the more you’ll enjoy the experience.

You’ll be well supported on the adventure, with the guides and your team all cheering you on. You’re free to move at your own pace and we will take frequent breaks

How do I fundraise?

Never fundraised before? Not sure where to start? No worries, we don’t expect you to do it alone. You will have regular support from the Inspired Adventures fundraising team, who will help you make a fundraising plan to meet your target. Alongside personalised coaching, we will also send you lots of ideas and resources on how to fundraise. From online fundraising to trivia nights, to bake sales and out-of-the-box ideas, we have years and years of tried and tested tips to make your fundraising a success.

Who will I be travelling with?

We believe small group travel is better for the planet, and better for you. Our adventures usually have 10 – 20 people aged from 18 to 90+ (younger ages considered on request). You can be sure that you have all come together with the shared purpose of making a difference to others and having the adventure of a lifetime.

The group will be led by a local tour guide with expert knowledge of the region. Many groups will also be accompanied by an Inspired Adventures team leader or doctor to support and motivate the team.

Where applicable, a charity representative may also join the team. This is a wonderful opportunity to learn more about your chosen charity and their work.

We understand the dilemma of making travel plans when the world feels unpredictable right now. You can still register for an Inspired Adventure in complete confidence, because we promise to look after you should COVID-19 travel bans affect your plans.

If COVID-19 travel bans mean your Inspired Adventure cannot go ahead as scheduled, we will endeavour to reschedule the departure to a later date to allow you still to travel as planned.
