“The most humbling and emotional time of my life with a group of people who share a common bond and believe in the future.”

— Trevor Neil King, Larapinta Trek 2019

Every day, professional first responders and 000 operators risk their lives to protect their community. They support Australians in crisis. But who supports them?

Join The Code 9 Foundation Larapinta 2022 adventure and, with every step you take, you will show mentally injured professional first responders and 000 operators they are never alone on their journey to recovery.

Immersed in the history of a thousand years’ past, over seven days you’ll follow well-worn, red dirt tracks along the slopes of the West MacDonnell Ranges, beside winding riverbanks, across open plains, up towering mountains and down into shaded gorges.

Past Ormiston Gorge and majestic Mount Sonder, you’ll conquer one of the world’s premier desert treks, through the scenic and historic landscapes made famous by Albert Namatjira’s paintings.

At night, you’ll camp under black skies filled with silver stars and fall asleep to the nocturnal lullaby of the desert, inspired by the difference you’ll make to the lives of first responders.

Did you know it costs $40,000 and takes 18 months to train one assistance dog?

As part of this adventure, you’ll help The Code 9 Foundation support current and veteran professional first responders and 000 operators living with PTSD, depression, anxiety and other mental health conditions resulting from their service to the community.

Your fundraising and physical efforts will help Code 9 train a life-saving assistance dog and provide programs and services to support mentally injured professional first responders, their families, children and carers.

How challenging is this adventure?

This adventure is ranked 3/5. While no extensive trekking experience is required prior to registering, our adventures are specifically designed for people who are relatively fit and willing to train. The Larapinta trail is a physical challenge, and the fitter you are, the more you will enjoy the experience.

You will be well supported on the adventure, with the guides and your team all cheering you on. You are free to move at your own pace and we will take frequent breaks.

How do I fundraise?

Never fundraised before? Not sure where to start? No worries, we don’t expect you to do it alone. You will have regular support from the Inspired Adventures fundraising team, who will help you make a fundraising plan to meet your target. Alongside personalised coaching, we will also send you lots of ideas and resources on how to fundraise. From online fundraising to trivia nights, to bake sales and out-of-the-box ideas, we have years and years of tried and tested tips to make your fundraising a success.

Who will I be travelling with?

We believe small group travel is better for the planet, and better for you. Our adventures usually have 10 – 20 people aged from 18 to 90+ (younger ages considered on request). You can be sure that you have all come together with the shared purpose of making a difference to others and having the adventure of a lifetime.

The group will be led by a local tour guide with expert knowledge of the region. Many groups will also be accompanied by an Inspired Adventures team leader or doctor to support and motivate the team.

Where applicable, a charity representative may also join the team. This is a wonderful opportunity to learn more about your chosen charity and their work.

We understand the dilemma of making travel plans when the world feels unpredictable right now. You can still register for an Inspired Adventure in complete confidence, because we promise to look after you should COVID-19 travel bans affect your plans.

If COVID-19 travel bans mean your Inspired Adventure cannot go ahead as scheduled, we will endeavour to reschedule the departure to a later date to allow you still to travel as planned.
