Trek for Kindness Costa Rica 2019 will raise vital funds for Edgar’s Mission to help create a humane world for farmed animals.

From mystical cloud forests and expansive coastlines, to active volcanoes and dense rainforest, Costa Rica’s rich diversity inspires wonder and awe at every turn.

Over seven mesmerising days, you will experience the very best of Costa Rica’s spectacular landscapes by foot. You will trek through Cahuita National Park, one of Costa Rica’s most beautiful and protected regions, where you will witness dazzling reef and tropical wildlife. You will explore the Gandoca-Manzanillo National Wildlife Refuge, an ecological wonderland and important habitat for endangered species, such as manatees and sea turtles. You will discover the impressive Arenal Volcano, a magnificent natural wonder that’s sure to spark enchantment.

Nothing short of extraordinary, you will also have the special opportunity to visit the sloth sanctuary of Costa Rica, a safe haven that rescues, protects and rehabilitates sloths. Here, you’ll learn all about our lovable, furry friends and even meet the sanctuary’s oldest resident sloth, Buttercup!

Best of all, the funds you raise in this challenge will help us provide life-long love and care to over 450 rescued farm animals at our farm sanctuary in Lancefield, Victoria.

Just like the cats and dogs who many of us choose to invite into our families, farmed animals share similar intelligence and emotional capacity. They experience joy, create strong bonds and fear for their lives—farmed animals are in fact invested in their own wellbeing.

The funds raised through Edgar’s Mission: Trek for Kindness Costa Rica 2019 will help Edgar’s Mission provide our animal residents with lives truly worth living. The trek will contribute to the ongoing care of our residents and new arrivals, especially those in critical condition and with greater needs. The impact on our organisation will be immense—Edgar’s Mission receives no government funding and so relies on public donations.

With over 450 animals in our care, our vet bill alone last year was close to $250,000. One of our animal residents, Saturday Lamb was born with congenital spasticity affecting both her hind legs and her ability to walk. A specially-designed wheelchair provides Saturday the freedom of movement that makes her life worth living. Nancy, an ageing rescued battery hen, has increasing needs as an animal selectively bred to lay far more eggs than nature intended. Whilst Together Goat arrived into our care after suffering severe injuries from a predator attack. Her rehabilitation has been extensive and she requires regular veterinary check-ups to ensure her progress continues.

In each of these cases, Edgar’s Mission has gone beyond what’s commonplace for farmed animals and provided the care they truly deserve. This is what we do on a daily basis and it’s only through the generosity of our supporters that we can continue moving mountains for animals.
