Join the Empower Trek 2019 and indulge your senses in the rich culture, colour, chaos and cuisine of India. Over 5 days, you will follow timeworn pathways through the Himalayan foothills, travelling through open meadows, dense pine forest and into friendly villages. To top it off, you will raise urgently needed funds for Empower to help transform some of the world’s most disadvantaged communities.
As part of this incredible adventure, you will discover the contrasts, colours and cultures of India, from Delhi to Dharamsala, in a whirlwind journey that will take you to the foothills of some of the highest mountains in the world.
Landing in Delhi, you are immediately exposed to the exotic chaos and confusion that is India’s capital. You will then fly to McLeod Ganj, Dharamsala – the home in exile of the Dalai Lama.
Embarking on the adventure-of-a-lifetime, over five days you will trek across lush alpine meadows, through rhododendron and pine forest and into traditional villages set in the shadow of snow-capped peaks. As you descend into verdant valleys, you will pass Gaddi shepherds guiding their herds and wave at children who run out to greet you.
Best of all, you will raise vital funds for Empower to help transform some of the world’s most disadvantaged communities.
India ranks 45th in the Table of Poverty and mass industrialisation activities are swallowing thousands of hectares of land to exploit natural resources. The end result deprives the poor and underprivileged people groups of India of basic needs – including access to clean water.
In 2017 EMPOWER successfully installed 98 Deep Core Bore Wells in North India. As a result, 214 villages and 17,680 people are now able to safely access potable water that sustains them all year round. These wells are open to all people irrespective of caste, religion or socio-economic status.
Empower seeks to continue to stand with the poor and the deprived by significantly extending the wells project. By taking part in this incredible challenge, you will play a major role in empowering those who are affected by drought, poor health and lack of potable water. Your fundraising efforts will go towards The Deep Bore Wells Project to dig 200 wells.
- $3,000 will provide the drilling of a deep core bore well for a community
