Join Our Fraser Island Trek in 2021
In May 2021, a team of inspired adventurers will spend 5 challenging days trekking Queensland’s Fraser Island – the largest sand island in the world. We’ll be discovering the natural beauty of Fraser Island to raise funds for Guide Dogs.
The trek will take you across endless stretches of white sandy beaches and through lush rainforest, as well as over trickling creeks and old mining tracks. The untouched natural beauty of Fraser Island will take your breath away and you’ll fall in love with your home country all over again.
You’ll visit some incredible sights such as Lake Boomanjin – the world’s largest perched lake, Eli Creek – the largest and fastest-flowing creek on the east coast and Govi Creek – nestled between melaleucas and sedges.
While you walk, you’ll encounter an abundance of wildlife that call the island home; from kangaroos and goannas, to bandicoots and bar shouldered doves. You might even catch a glimpse of pods of dolphins or fevers of stingrays in the ocean too!
Above and beyond being an amazing experience, your fundraising assistance will contribute to connecting more visually impaired people with guide dogs. Sadly, over 450,000 people in Australia are affected by vision loss, but Guide Dogs delivers more than 900 programs every year to provide these people with the independence and freedom that they deserve.
By joining the Fraser Island Trek you’ll be raising crucial funds for a specific specialised care of breeding females (broods) through pre-pregnancy, pregnancy and birth of their litters. This is such an exciting project to be a part of, as the funds you raise will go directly towards the onsite care of pups from birth, through their critical first 8-10 weeks of life.
The foundations for a successful guide dog are laid out in their first few weeks, when they need specialised care to ensure that they develop the temperament, social skills and confidence to become an amazing guide dog.
The journey of a brood from pregnancy to birth and the care of her pups carries a cost of approximately $7,500. This includes examinations and medical procedures around mating and birth, vaccinations, microchipping, general medical care, food supplements, toys, hygiene control and staffing, all of which you will contribute to. Without this care, the birth of new litters couldn’t happen, so your support for breeding females and their puppies is very important work.
Don’t let border closures stop you from doing something inspiring and embarking on an unforgettable adventure!
