One Trek Peru is a trekking adventure that is raising funds for type 1 diabetes research, helping improve the lives of the 120,000 Australians affected by this disease.

On this nine-day adventure, JDRF supporters will explore the breathtaking country of Peru by foot and discover the incredible ancient Inca site of Machu Picchu.

They’ll complete a challenging five day Lares trek and camp in the shadow of the towering Andes Mountains, all united to make a difference for people living with type 1 diabetes. While the Inca Trail is more popular, the Lares trek is all about quiet moments and genuine insights into modern local life. They’ll explore the cobbled streets of Cusco and spend two days discovering Machu Picchu.

Type 1 diabetes (T1D) is an autoimmune disease that currently affects 120,000 Australians, with 2,400 newly diagnosed every year. It can affect anyone at any stage of life and can have a debilitating impact on the individual not only physically but in all areas of their life. There is no way of preventing it, and there is currently no cure.

By taking on the One Trek Peru, you’ll be joining JDRF’s army of dedicated supporters who are working towards lessening the burden of T1D. The funds raised for the challenge will go towards critical research aimed at a cure, prevention and treatment. Every research project has the potential to accelerate life-changing breakthroughs, helping turn type one into type none!
