My experience was a once in a lifetime experience, something I will always remember.”

— Sarah Wilkie, MND Victoria’s Great Wall Trek 2019

On average, two people die and two people are diagnosed with MND in Australia every day.

The number of people living with MND grows exponentially when you include those who are yet to be diagnosed, carers, former carers, families, friends, workmates, and any other person whose life is, or has been, affected by a diagnosis of MND.

Join MND Victoria’s Never Give Up NZ Trek and, with every step you take, you will help provide and promote the best possible care and support for people living with MND.

Beginning in Christchurch, over six days you will discover the majesty of New Zealand’s South Island. Traversing the Southern Alps, you will trek through lush alpine meadow and into steep, glaciated valleys. You will gaze upon the turquoise surface of Lake Tekapo and stand in the shadow of awe-inspiring Aoraki, New Zealand’s highest mountain.

Arriving in Queenstown, you’ll be tired, yet inspired by your team’s effort to support the 470 Victorians currently living with MND and those who will be diagnosed in the future.

As part of this adventure, you’ll support MND Victoria in their mission to provide and promote the best possible care and support for people living with MND.

Through your fundraising and physical efforts, every dollar donated will support MND Victoria’s life-changing services and fund research into the cause, cure and treatment of MND.

• $40 provides a bed stick to improve mobility

• $130 pays for a nebuliser to help someone with MND breathe easier

• $500 can install a ramp for easier home access

• $1,600 makes showering safer and more comfortable with a commode

• $2,200 covers the cost of an electric riser chair

MND Victoria can only continue to provide the best possible care, support and assistive equipment to people living with MND with your support.

How challenging is this adventure?

The Southern Alps trek is ranked 3/5. While no extensive trekking experience is required prior to registering, our adventures are designed for people who are relatively fit and willing to train. The trek is a physical challenge, and the fitter you are, the more you will enjoy the experience.

You can expect the days to vary from easy exploration walks to day-long hikes over rough terrain. You should be able to walk comfortably for 4–6 hours over consecutive days.

You will be well supported on the adventure, with the guides and your team all cheering you on. You are free to move at your own pace and we will take frequent breaks.

How do I fundraise?

Never fundraised before? Not sure where to start? No worries, we don’t expect you to do it alone. You will have regular support from the Inspired Adventures fundraising team, who will help you make a fundraising plan to meet your target. Alongside personalised coaching, we will also send you lots of ideas and resources on how to fundraise. From online fundraising to trivia nights, to bake sales and out-of-the-box ideas, we have years and years of tried and tested tips to make your fundraising a success.

Who will I be travelling with?

We believe small group travel is better for the planet, and better for you. Our adventures usually have 10 – 20 people aged from 18 to 90+ (younger ages considered on request). You can be sure that you have all come together with the shared purpose of making a difference to others and having the adventure of a lifetime.

The group will be led by a local tour guide with expert knowledge of the region. Many groups will also be accompanied by an Inspired Adventures team leader or doctor to support and motivate the team.

Where applicable, a charity representative may also join the team. This is a wonderful opportunity to learn more about your chosen charity and their work.

We understand the dilemma of making travel plans when the world feels unpredictable right now. You can still register for an Inspired Adventure in complete confidence, because we promise to look after you should COVID-19 travel bans affect your plans.

If COVID-19 travel bans mean your Inspired Adventure cannot go ahead as scheduled, we will endeavour to reschedule the departure to a later date to allow you still to travel as planned.
