Join the NeuRA Hike for Health and help fund NeuRA’s research to find a cure for degenerative brain diseases and mental illnesses.

On this once-in-a-lifetime adventure, you’ll trek through the Australian outback on one of the most spectacular walking tracks in the world—the Larapinta Trail.

From the old Alice Springs Telegraph Station to the peak of Mount Sonder, the trail stretches 223 kilometres along the backbone of the West MacDonnell Ranges. Over 5 days, you will journey along the most spectacular and rewarding sections of the trail, trekking over 60 kilometres. You will follow Aboriginal Dreaming tracks and explore the beautiful mountains, valleys, rivers and the dramatic desert landscapes of the Red Centre.

By day, you’ll trek through the ochre-landscapes of the outback, witnessing the sacred sites of the Arrernte people and by night you’ll camp under the stars, falling asleep to the sounds of native wildlife.

Today, mental illness is among the leading causes of death and disability in Australia. By 2025 the major contributor to poor quality of life for Australians will be conditions of the brain and mind, surpassing heart disease, cancer and diabetes.

NeuRA’s brain disease and disorder research is at the cornerstone of the efforts to advance health and wellbeing for our families and our community.

By joining the Hike for Health, you’ll be directly funding research by the very best and brightest PhD students from within Australia. Their findings could unlock the next step towards discovering, conquering and curing conditions that affect our mental health.

It’s only through more research that we can better understand how we might use current findings to create new treatments and therapies that will help people living with and those yet to be diagnosed with a mental illness or brain injury.
