Join Trek2Cure Neuroblastoma and support the fight against neuroblastoma.

In June 2021, Neuroblastoma Australia will be taking on one of the most exciting bush walking trails in the whole of Australia for an amazing cause. – trekking to support research into a cure for the aggressive children’s cancer, neuroblastoma.

This once in a lifetime trek begins in Alice Springs, where you will explore the ruggedly

beautiful town in the heart of Central Australia. The trek aims to connect you with the land, so that you may fully understand the beauty of Australia. It’s a chance to immerse yourself in nature and see some of the most iconic natural sights in the region.

To help you immerse yourself and understand the significance of the land we’ll be connecting you with Aranda Elders to tell you the history of the area. From Alice Springs you’ll head into the wilderness, taking on one of Australia’s most famous and loved bushwalking trails.

You’ll explore the majestic WestMacDonnell Ranges, Mount Zeil (the highest point in the Northern Territory) and Redbank Gorge as well as many other iconic natural landmarks. As you do so, you’ll fall in love with Australia all over again and get a chance to immerse yourself in the wilderness.

This incredible trek will be in support of vital research into neuroblastoma. Though many people don’t know much about neuroblastoma, it is the leading cause of death in children aged under five from cancer. You may well be aware of the statistics below which is why  we need your help:

  • The average age of a child diagnosed with neuroblastoma is just 2 years old
  • The survival rate for aggressive neuroblastoma is currently only about 50%.
  • Of those who do survive, one third will suffer long term effects from their treatment as the treatment regime is so toxic and extensive.

Your heroic efforts on this Larapinta trek will support the Neuroblastoma Australia charity as they raise awareness and aim to find a cure for this cancer. The funds you raise will help to support research into the development of better, safer treatments for children diagnosed with neuroblastoma now and in the future. The research project to be funded is that of a young scientist, Dr. Zsuzsanna Nagy and is focused on looking at the MYNC gene within aggressive neuroblastoma which is linked to poorer prognosis.
