“One of the most rewarding experiences of my life.”

— James, Larapinta trek 2018

Each day about 57 Australians are diagnosed with breast cancer. While treatment is often successful, it can be an exhausting experience, both emotionally and physically. The Otis Foundation raises money to provide retreat accommodation to those with breast cancer and their loved ones in order to help them relax and recuperate.

Step up to the challenge of the Larapinta Trail and raise $3,500 to help The Otis Foundation offer an extra 46 retreat nights every year. Challenge yourself and give a short break to the people who need it most.

For five extraordinary days, you’ll take part in a hiking adventure that explores some of the most spectacular parts of the Australian outback. In fact, some hikers say the 223-kilometre Larapinta Trail, which follows the MacDonnell Ranges, is one of the finest multiday walking adventures anywhere in the world. Track its ridgelines through the Central Desert, and take in the majesty of this exceptional landscape. At night, you’ll rest your head beneath a sky filled with stars.

Are you ready to lace up your boots and bring emotional and psychological relief to those with breast cancer? This is an adventure you’ll never forget and the chance to give back to the community.

The $3,500 you raise for The Otis Foundation will provide at least 40 more retreat nights to breast cancer patients around Australia.

To manage the ever-growing waiting list, The Otis Foundation aims to increase guest stays by 20% each year for the next 3 years, providing a chance to be with loved ones and make lasting memories for an additional 1,821 individuals experiencing breast cancer.

By tackling the Larapinta Trail in 2022, you’ll be providing the gift of time and space for people experiencing the psychological and emotional challenges that accompany a breast cancer diagnosis.

How challenging is this adventure?

This adventure is ranked 3/5. While no extensive trekking experience is required prior to registering, our adventures are specifically designed for people who are relatively fit and willing to train. The Otis Foundation’s Larapinta Adventure is a physical challenge, involving trekking approximately 18 kilometres over hilly terrain in one day. The fitter you are, the more you will enjoy the experience.

You will be well supported on the adventure, with the guides and your team all cheering you on. You are free to move at your own pace and we will take frequent breaks.

How do I fundraise?

Never fundraised before? Not sure where to start? No worries, we don’t expect you to do it alone. You will have regular support from the Inspired Adventures fundraising team, who will help you make a fundraising plan to meet your target. Alongside personalised coaching, we will also send you lots of ideas and resources on how to fundraise. From online fundraising to trivia nights, to bake sales and out-of-the-box ideas, we have years and years of tried and tested tips to make your fundraising a success.

Who will I be travelling with?

We believe small group travel is better for the planet, and better for you. Our adventures usually have 10 – 20 people aged from 18 to 90+ (younger ages considered on request). You can be sure that you have all come together with the shared purpose of making a difference to others and having the adventure of a lifetime.

The group will be led by a local tour guide with expert knowledge of the region. Many groups will also be accompanied by an Inspired Adventures team leader or doctor to support and motivate the team.

Where applicable, a charity representative may also join the team. This is a wonderful opportunity to learn more about your chosen charity and their work.

We understand the dilemma of making travel plans when the world feels unpredictable right now. You can still register for an Inspired Adventure in complete confidence, because we promise to look after you should COVID-19 travel bans affect your plans.

If COVID-19 travel bans mean your Inspired Adventure cannot go ahead as scheduled, we will endeavour to reschedule the departure to a later date to allow you still to travel as planned.
