Pancare Ride for Research Cambodia 2021

In March 2021, a passionate group of supporters will set off to Ride for Research in Cambodia and raise funds for Pancare. By turning their passion into action, they’ll help fund research that could find new cancer treatments or breakthroughs in early detection.

Over six days they’ll cycle 350 kilometres of Cambodian countryside, exploring local life off the beaten path and discovering the magnificent Angkor temple complex. 

Together, they’ll raise funds that will improve the lives of thousands of Australians and could change how pancreatic cancer is diagnosed and treated.

Pancare provides cancer support services by providing programs designed to address individual and changing patient needs. We also fund clinical research across the country, with the aim of improving the outcome for anyone affected by pancreatic, liver, biliary, oesophageal and stomach cancer. One such project is looking at localised drug delivery for non-resectable pancreatic cancer at the University of Wollongong with principal investigator Dr Kara Vine-Perrow. This project is in partnership with Cancer Australia and funded by Pancare.

While surgical removal of the tumour remains the only curative option, over 80% of patients present with inoperable disease. This project will test a novel drug delivery system that is capable of locally delivering 2 chemotherapeutic drugs directly to the site of the tumour with the overall goal of reducing tumour size so that patients can undergo life-saving surgery.
