Property Industry Foundation Walk Against Homelessness

A thriving rural paradise in the foothills of Queensland’s Great Dividing Range, the Scenic Rim has to be seen to be believed. And over two epic days, you’re invited to witness the beauty of the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Gondwana Rainforests – the most extensive region of subtropical rainforests in the world.

Following world-class walks beside watering holes and waterfalls, along ancient escarpments and across volcanic plateaus, you’ll experience the combined native history of over 180 million years – from a time before Australia existed and this incredible rainforest covered one-fifth of the Earth’s surface. Through the day, you get to immerse yourself in the unique treasure trove of flora and fauna this ancient area has to offer, at night you’ll relax in comfort and enjoy dinner, drinks and conversation with like-minded industry leaders.

Best of all, with every step you take as part of this incredible adventure, you’ll raise vital funds to help the Property Industry Foundation build homes for homeless youth and empower young people to rebuild their lives.

Every night across Australia, 44,000 young people don’t have a safe and secure place to sleep.

Availability of accommodation is only one part of the widespread issue of homelessness; however, it’s an important part. The stock available to frontline charities delivering youth homelessness services is limited, old and often not fit for purpose.

With your support, the Property Industry Foundation aims to build Haven House South Dowling, a state-of-the-art, 18-bedroom accommodation for homeless youth.

Walk Against Homelessness 2022 is your chance to take a stand against youth homelessness. Uniting the property and construction industry’s leaders, this adventure is an opportunity for you to be part of the solution on the issue of youth homelessness while investing in your business and personal network.

As the creators of new communities, property and construction industry leaders can and should play a meaningful role in addressing youth homelessness.

How challenging is this adventure?

This adventure is ranked 4/5. While no extensive trekking experience is required prior to registering, our adventures are specifically designed for people who are relatively fit and willing to train. The Scenic Rim trek is a physical challenge, involving trekking approximately 20 kilometres over two days. The fitter you are, the more you’ll enjoy the experience. 

You’ll be well supported on the adventure, with the guides and your team all cheering you on. You’re free to move at your own pace and we’ll take frequent breaks.

How do I fundraise?

Never fundraised before? Not sure where to start? No worries, we don’t expect you to do it alone. You will have regular support from the Inspired Adventures fundraising team, who will help you make a fundraising plan to meet your target. Alongside personalised coaching, we will also send you lots of ideas and resources on how to fundraise. From online fundraising to trivia nights, to bake sales and out-of-the-box ideas, we have years and years of tried and tested tips to make your fundraising a success.

Who will I be travelling with?

We believe small group travel is better for the planet, and better for you. Our adventures usually have 10 – 20 people aged from 18 to 90+ (younger ages considered on request). You can be sure that you have all come together with the shared purpose of making a difference to others and having the adventure of a lifetime.

The group will be led by a local tour guide with expert knowledge of the region. Many groups will also be accompanied by an Inspired Adventures team leader or doctor to support and motivate the team.

Where applicable, a charity representative may also join the team. This is a wonderful opportunity to learn more about your chosen charity and their work.

Do I need to have travel insurance? 

Travel insurance is highly recommended for domestic adventures, to cover cancellation, hospital, emergency evacuation and lost luggage. We advise that you purchase your policy as soon as possible. It’s up to you to ensure you have fully comprehensive travel insurance and you’ll need to share these details with our team before departure. If COVID-19 travel bans mean your Inspired Adventure cannot go ahead as scheduled, we will endeavour to reschedule the departure to a later date to allow you still to travel as planned.
