“This trek was amazing – truly life changing. A great group of people and an experience I’ll cherish for life. It’s important to do something that you believe in for yourself.”

— Lauren Griffiths, Tasmania Trek, 2018

Join the Sammy D Bay of Fires Trek and experience the pristine beauty of Tasmania’s Bay of Fires while connecting and empowering young people to live their best life, free from violence.

Immersed in the rugged, untamed beauty of Tasmania’s Bay of Fires, over five days you’ll trek from St Helens to Scottsdale, along pristine coastline, beside crystal clear waters, into rocky gullies and between bright lichen-covered boulders.

Following the natural landscape of Tasmania’s north east coast, you’ll explore protected reserves teeming with wildflowers, wetland and woodland. Through healthland, over white sands and rocky headlands, you’ll make your way across Bay of Fires beach to Eddystone Point, discovering the history of Australia’s First Peoples and encountering native wildlife along the way. Arriving in Launceston, you’ll feel tired, yet inspired, by your efforts to end violence through innovative community mentoring programs.

Since 2000, more than 170 Australians have died from one-punch assaults. That’s 170 lives lost through senseless violence and thousands more lives irreversibly changed forever.

As part of the Sammy D Bay of Fires Trek 2022, you’ll raise vital funds to end violence by connecting and empowering young people.

The funds you raise as part of this incredible adventure will help deliver community mentoring programs that provide one-on-one mentoring services to young people across Adelaide.

Many of the young people the Sammy D Foundation supports have experienced family breakdown, violence or dysfunction. Through primary prevention education programs in schools and sporting clubs, the foundation helps these young people change the course of their lives.

With your support, the foundation can connect with young people aged 7–17 years who are at-risk, disadvantaged, socially isolated or in need of a positive role model.

Just $53 is enough to help a young person access support and mentoring. With $2,000, one young person can partner with a Sammy D Foundation mentor for six months.

The Sammy D Foundation relies on the kindness and support of the greater community to continue delivering its vital programs.

How challenging is this adventure?

This adventure is ranked 3/5. While no extensive trekking experience is required prior to registering, our adventures are specifically designed for people who are relatively fit and willing to train. The Bay of Fires Trek is a physical challenge, involving trekking approximately 30 kilometres over four days. The fitter you are, the more you’ll enjoy the experience.

How do I fundraise?

Never fundraised before? Not sure where to start? No worries, we don’t expect you to do it alone. You will have regular support from the Inspired Adventures fundraising team, who will help you make a fundraising plan to meet your target. Alongside personalised coaching, we will also send you lots of ideas and resources on how to fundraise. From online fundraising to trivia nights, to bake sales and out-of-the-box ideas, we have years and years of tried and tested tips to make your fundraising a success.

Who will I be travelling with?

We believe small group travel is better for the planet, and better for you. Our adventures usually have 10 – 20 people aged from 18 to 90+ (younger ages considered on request). You can be sure that you have all come together with the shared purpose of making a difference to others and having the adventure of a lifetime.

The group will be led by a local tour guide with expert knowledge of the region. Many groups will also be accompanied by an Inspired Adventures team leader or doctor to support and motivate the team.

Where applicable, a charity representative may also join the team. This is a wonderful opportunity to learn more about your chosen charity and their work.

Do I need to have travel insurance?

Travel insurance is highly recommended for domestic adventures, to cover cancellation, hospital, emergency evacuation and lost luggage. We advise that you purchase your policy as soon as possible. It’s up to you to ensure you have fully comprehensive travel insurance and you’ll need to share these details with our team before departure. For more information, please visit www.inspiredadventures.com.au/travel-insurance-information.

We understand the dilemma of making travel plans when the world feels unpredictable right now. You can still register for an Inspired Adventure in complete confidence, because we promise to look after you should COVID-19 travel bans affect your plans.

If COVID-19 travel bans mean your Inspired Adventure cannot go ahead as scheduled, we will endeavour to reschedule the departure to a later date to allow you still to travel as planned.

Inspired Adventures requires that all travellers are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 as described in government guidelines and ground operator requirements.

For more information please refer to the COVID-19 hub on our website.
