“A true highlight of my life.” — Peita Byer, ShelterBox Australia: Larapinta trek 2019

Every year, hundreds of thousands of people lose their homes, possessions and livelihoods because of natural disasters and humanitarian crises. ShelterBox Australia provides emergency shelter and vital supplies to support these communities so that no family has to go without this basic human need: shelter.

By joining the ShelterBox Moonlight Trek 2022 in January, you’ll be raising funds to provide shelter and other necessities to families who have lost everything to disaster or crisis.

On this epic adventure, you’ll ascend Australia’s highest peak, Mount Kosciuszko, beneath starry skies to be rewarded with breathtaking views of the Australian Alps at sunrise. On the way back, with the sun now bathing this special part of the world in its light, you’ll see snow gums, wildflowers, rock formations and historic cattlemen’s huts, and be left in awe by endless expanses of blue sky.

Not only will you be challenging yourself, but you’ll also be helping ShelterBox provide families who’ve lost everything during disasters and crises with the necessities to get them on their feet again.

By raising $2,500, you’ll help ShelterBox Australia reach the communities most in need. The money will provide shelter from the elements, clean water to prevent illness, solar light for safety, blankets and ground sheets for protection, and tools to repair homes. For instance:

• $1,000 could pay for one ShelterBox

• $500 could pay for one relief tent

• $100 could pay for one ShelterKit

• $50 could pay for one water filter

• $30 could pay for one solar light

How challenging is this adventure?

This adventure is ranked 3/5. While no extensive trekking experience is required prior to registering, our adventures are specifically designed for people who are relatively fit and willing to train. The ShelterBox Moonlight Trek is a physical challenge so the fitter you are, the more you will enjoy the experience.

You will be well supported on the adventure, with the guides and your team all cheering you on. You are free to move at your own pace and we will take frequent breaks.

How do I fundraise?

Never fundraised before? Not sure where to start? No worries, we don’t expect you to do it alone. You will have regular support from the Inspired Adventures fundraising team, who will help you make a fundraising plan to meet your target. Alongside personalised coaching, we will also send you lots of ideas and resources on how to fundraise. From online fundraising to trivia nights, to bake sales and out-of-the-box ideas, we have years and years of tried and tested tips to make your fundraising a success.

Who will I be travelling with?

We believe small group travel is better for the planet, and better for you. Our adventures usually have 10 – 20 people aged from 18 to 90+ (younger ages considered on request). You can be sure that you have all come together with the shared purpose of making a difference to others and having the adventure of a lifetime.

The group will be led by a local tour guide with expert knowledge of the region. Many groups will also be accompanied by an Inspired Adventures team leader or doctor to support and motivate the team.

Where applicable, a charity representative may also join the team. This is a wonderful opportunity to learn more about your chosen charity and their work.

We understand the dilemma of making travel plans when the world feels unpredictable right now. You can still register for an Inspired Adventure in complete confidence, because we promise to look after you should COVID-19 travel bans affect your plans.

If COVID-19 travel bans mean your Inspired Adventure cannot go ahead as scheduled, we will endeavour to reschedule the departure to a later date to allow you still to travel as planned.
