Join Soldier On over Anzac Day on the Steps for Strength 2018 to give a hand up to our veterans.

In 1942, the Kokoda Track area was the scene for bitter fighting. Today, walking the track has become a pilgrimage for many Australians, and those honouring the ANZAC spirit.

One of the world’s greatest treks, the Kokoda Track links the south and north coast of Papua New Guinea across 96 kilometres of rugged mountain terrain, tropical rainforest and unspoiled villages.

As part of this incredible adventure, you will trek the track by day, open to the harsh and inspiring beauty of Papua New Guinea’s tropical rainforest. At night you will stay in secluded camps, sharing stories with locals and falling asleep to the nocturnal sounds of the jungle.

Not for the faint-hearted, this truly is a once-in-a-lifetime adventure on which, with every step you take, you will raise vital funds to help Soldier On veterans achieve better futures.

Funds raised will be used to support the Veteran and Family Support Program, including the national extension of service delivery through Veteran and Family Support Officers. This will assist veterans to stay socially connected, become gainfully employed, and access psychological support if required.

Veterans and their families are welcome at any of Soldier On’s centres across the country and can engage with staff on the ground to find out more about available services. Soldier On can also provide many of their services remotely, via phone and online resources. They welcome all serving and ex-serving members and their families to access their services, including:

Social Connection Services – Coffee catch ups, classes, physical activities and sports recovery programs to keep veterans connected with others.

Employment and Education Support – Our staff can help to assist identifying pathways into employment, translate skills, further develop resumes, navigate the job market and support individuals through the application process.

Psychological Services – Psychological support can be a vital component of recovery, and for the support of the family. Professional advice and sessions with a psychologist have been demonstrated to assist in coping with the effects of service including those related to psychological or physical injuries, and adjustment during periods of transition.
