The Stroke Foundation’s Hike for Health is an epic trekking adventure that will see you explore the most spectacular sections of the Larapinta Trail, with expert guides and support crew, to raise funds to prevent stroke, save lives and enhance recovery.

The Larapinta Trail is regarded as one of Australia’s premier walking tracks. From the old Alice Springs Telegraph Station to the peak of Mount Sonder, the trail stretches 223 kilometres along the backbone of the West MacDonnell Ranges.

As part of this incredible – yet challenging – adventure, you will cover 60km of the Larapinta Trail and stand on ancient escarpments and gaze out upon the ochre-coloured landscapes of Central Australia. You will follow Aboriginal Dreaming tracks and trek beside one of the world’s oldest
river systems.

By day, you will challenge yourself as you trek across the Red Centre, experiencing the diversity of desert habitats and learn the unique history of Australia’s Indigenous peoples. At night, you will fall asleep to the sounds of native wildlife under a blanket of stars.

More than 27,400 people have experienced a stroke for the first time in their lives in 2020, while more than 445,000 survivors are living in the community.

Stroke is one of Australia’s biggest killers and a leading cause of disability. It kills more women than breast cancer and more men than prostate cancer.

80% of stroke is preventable and keeping active is one of the ways to prevent a stroke. By signing up to the Larapinta Trek, you will not only be reducing your own risk of stroke by exercising, you will also raise much needed funds for the Stroke Foundation.

The Stroke Foundation partners with the community to prevent stroke, save lives and enhance recovery. We do this through raising awareness, facilitating research and supporting stroke survivors.
