An amazing experience that I will never forget. The landscape was amazing, but not as amazing as the people we shared the experience with.

— Thomas Duncan, UNICEF Everest Base Camp 2018

Join UNICEF Australia’s Larapinta trek and, with every step you take, you’ll help UNICEF reach children in the world’s toughest places – to save their lives, defend their rights and help them fulfil their potential.

Immersed in the rich history of Australia’s First Peoples, over seven days you’ll follow well-worn, red dirt tracks along the slopes of the West MacDonnell Ranges, beside winding riverbanks, across open plains, up towering mountains and down into shaded gorges.

Past Ormiston Gorge and majestic Mount Sonder, you’ll conquer one of the world’s premier desert treks, through the scenic and historic landscapes made famous by Albert Namatjira’s paintings.

At night, you’ll camp under black skies filled with silver stars and fall asleep to the nocturnal sounds of the desert, inspired by the difference you’re making to the lives of vulnerable children around the world

Did you know COVID-19 has put 80 million children at risk of preventable disease?

Children worst affected were already vulnerable before the pandemic struck. They are the children in war zones. The children without enough food. The children who can’t drink or wash in safe water. The children who can’t access education. As part of this incredible adventure, you’ll help UNICEF Australia save children’s lives:

• $30 can provide 110 bars of soap to prevent the spread of disease

• $67 can provide 126 packets of life-saving peanut paste to bring a malnourished child back to health

• $85 can provide 240 vaccines to protect children against preventable diseases like polio, tetanus, measles and tuberculosis

• $220 can provide 40,000 water purification tablets. Each water purification tablet is able to turn 4-5 litres of dirty water into drinking water.

How challenging is this adventure?

This adventure is ranked 3/5. While no extensive trekking experience is required prior to registering, our adventures are specifically designed for people who are relatively fit and willing to train. The Larapinta Trail is a physical challenge, and the fitter you are, the more you will enjoy the experience.

You will be well supported on the adventure, with the guides and your team all cheering you on. You are free to move at your own pace and we will take frequent breaks.

How do I fundraise?

Never fundraised before? Not sure where to start? No worries, we don’t expect you to do it alone. You will have regular support from the Inspired Adventures fundraising team, who will help you make a fundraising plan to meet your target. Alongside personalised coaching, we will also send you lots of ideas and resources on how to fundraise. From online fundraising to trivia nights, to bake sales and out-of-the-box ideas, we have years and years of tried and tested tips to make your fundraising a success.

Who will I be travelling with?

We believe small group travel is better for the planet, and better for you. Our adventures usually have 10 – 20 people aged from 18 to 90+ (younger ages considered on request). You can be sure that you have all come together with the shared purpose of making a difference to others and having the adventure of a lifetime.

The group will be led by a local tour guide with expert knowledge of the region. Many groups will also be accompanied by an Inspired Adventures team leader or doctor to support and motivate the team.

Where applicable, a charity representative may also join the team. This is a wonderful opportunity to learn more about your chosen charity and their work.

We understand the dilemma of making travel plans when the world feels unpredictable right now. You can still register for an Inspired Adventure in complete confidence, because we promise to look after you should COVID-19 travel bans affect your plans.

If COVID-19 travel bans mean your Inspired Adventure cannot go ahead as scheduled, we will endeavour to reschedule the departure to a later date to allow you still to travel as planned.
