Join the Trek for Children El Camino 2019 and raise vital funds for UNICEF Australia to help provide children living through crisis with both immediate and long-term necessities, such as food, water, shelter, protection and support.

As part of this incredible adventure, you will discover the many wonders of Spain.

On arrival in Madrid, Spain’s bustling capital city, you will set off on a guided tour, exploring the city’s highlights from past to present. You will then travel beyond city limits to embark on the Camino de Santiago.

From Sarria to Santiago, you will trek under the shade of old oak trees into peaceful hamlets set against the rolling green backdrop of Galicia. At night, you will experience Spain’s colourful culture and cuisine.

On what other adventure can you follow in the footsteps of the Romans, the Knights Templar, pilgrims and modern day adventurers to Santiago de Compostela?

You will also have the very special opportunity to visit the Spanish Committee for UNICEF in Madrid, where you will learn about UNICEF’s work in emergencies and crisis relief for political and natural disasters. It’s bound to be an unforgettable experience.

Best of all, you will be raising vital funds for UNICEF Australia to give children living through crisis the safety, survival and hope they need for a brighter future.

During emergencies and humanitarian crises, children are especially vulnerable to disease, malnutrition and violence.  Children living in conflict and disaster areas are more likely to be living in extreme poverty, or not enrolled in primary school; they are also more likely to die before their fifth birthday.

UNICEF focuses on these children and their families – on the interventions required for protection, to save lives and to ensure the rights of all children, everywhere.

Today, children in places like Syria, South Sudan, and Yemen are caught up in violent conflicts, with millions forced to flee their homes. Others, in countries such as Nepal, Haiti and the Philippines have seen their communities destroyed by natural disasters including earthquakes, typhoons and floods.

Wherever and whenever there is a crisis, UNICEF strives to reach children and families with life-saving resources and provides food, water, shelter, protection and support.

As part of UNICEF’s El Camino trek, you’ll give children living through crisis the safety, survival and hope they need for a brighter future.
