“The highlight was definitely watching the sunrise on the final day and reflecting on our journey.”

— Jacqueline Carlyle-Hoggan, Larapinta Trail, 2019

Everyone knows the devastating impact cancer can have on a person’s physical and mental wellbeing. Western Health Foundation offers patients in Melbourne’s west support options, both emotional and practical, during treatment and recovery.

Step up to the challenge of the Larapinta Trail and raise $3,000 to provide cancer patients with vital services to help maintain both their physical and emotional wellbeing. Challenge yourself and help the people who need it most.

For seven extraordinary days, you’ll take part in a hiking adventure that explores some of the most spectacular parts of the Australian outback. In fact, some hikers say the Larapinta Trail, which follows the MacDonnell Ranges for more than 200 kilometres, is one of the finest multi-day walking adventures anywhere in the world. Track its ridgelines through the Central Desert, and take in the majesty of this exceptional landscape. At night, you’ll rest your head beneath a sky filled with stars.

Are you ready to lace up your boots and bring emotional and physical relief to patients fighting cancer? This is an adventure you’ll never forget and the chance to give back to the community.

Here’s how the $3,000 you raise can help:

• $50 covers the costs of a taxi to and from a chemotherapy session for patients with no transport options;

• $100 helps to provide a pack of essential care items to a patient diagnosed with cancer, to help cope with the various stages of treatment;

• $250 pays for a patient to enrol in a specially tailored gym package, ensuring they are physically able to meet the challenges of chemotherapy.

• $500 will support families who have been impacted by cancer as they try to keep living a normal life. A cancer diagnosis can have a huge financial impact. Your support might help cover one off costs like a special final family photoshoot to ensure memories are made. You’ll also support families who’ve had to tighten the purse strings, so that kids don’t miss out when footy fees, school excursions or birthday parties come up.

• $1,000+ supports a patient to receive additional emotional, educational, psychological and social support from a health care professional, to help them navigate the complexities of their cancer diagnosis, and reassure them throughout treatment. A cancer diagnosis is scary and these funds can ensure that the patient’s individual needs are met, alongside assistance with wellbeing strategies, to help deliver the best care.

How do I fundraise?

Never fundraised before? Not sure where to start? No worries, we don’t expect you to do it alone. You will have regular support from the Inspired Adventures fundraising team, who will help you make a fundraising plan to meet your target. Alongside personalised coaching, we will also send you lots of ideas and resources on how to fundraise. From online fundraising to trivia nights, to bake sales and out-of-the-box ideas, we have years and years of tried and tested tips to make your fundraising a success.

Who will I be travelling with?

We believe small group travel is better for the planet, and better for you. Our adventures usually have 10 – 20 people aged from 18 to 90+ (younger ages considered on request). You can be sure that you have all come together with the shared purpose of making a difference to others and having the adventure of a lifetime.

The group will be led by a local tour guide with expert knowledge of the region. Many groups will also be accompanied by an Inspired Adventures team leader or doctor to support and motivate the team.

Where applicable, a charity representative may also join the team. This is a wonderful opportunity to learn more about your chosen charity and their work.

We understand the dilemma of making travel plans when the world feels unpredictable right now. You can still register for an Inspired Adventure in complete confidence, because we promise to look after you should COVID-19 travel bans affect your plans.

If COVID-19 travel bans mean your Inspired Adventure cannot go ahead as scheduled, we will endeavour to reschedule the departure to a later date to allow you still to travel as planned.
