“This trek was amazing – truly life changing. A great group of people and an experience I will cherish for life. It’s important to do something that you believe in for yourself.”

– Lauren Griffiths, Tasmania Trek 2018

Join the WJN Bay of Fires Trek and experience the pristine beauty of Tasmania’s Bay of Fires while supporting the Women’s Mentoring Program to help more women and girls rebuild their lives.

Immersed in the rugged, untamed beauty of Tasmania’s Bay of Fires, over five days, you’ll trek along pristine coastline, beside crystal clear waters, between lichen-covered boulders and into rocky gullies.

Following the natural landscape of Tasmania’s north east coast, you’ll explore protected reserves of wildflowers, wetland and woodland. From St Helens to Scottsdale, you’ll experience the vastness of deserted beaches, punctuated by windswept headlands, sheltered lagoons and estuaries teeming with wildlife.

Through healthland, over white sands and rocky headlands, you’ll make your way across Bay of Fires beach to Eddystone Point, discovering the history of Australia’s First Peoples and encountering native wildlife along the way. Arriving in Launceston, you’ll feel tired, but also inspired, by your efforts towards supporting marginalised and disadvantaged women and girls make life-lasting changes, lead crime-free lives and become contributing members of their communities.

Did you know that women in NSW are being incarcerated at a rate four times higher than men?

When women are released from custody, many have no support, no money and nowhere to go. They are at their most vulnerable.

As part of the WJN Bay of Fires Trek, you’ll help the Women’s Justice Network expand their mentoring program so more women and girls can be supported to make positive choices and lifestyle changes upon release.

The funds you raise as part of this incredible adventure can support one woman in the mentoring program for six months. With $6,000, one woman is supported for a year and, in reaching the team fundraising goal of $50,000, we can support more than eight women for a year.

93 per cent of women engaged in the Women’s Justice Network mentoring program for one year or more avoid reoffending and returning to prison. Your fundraising will make a difference to the lives of marginalised and disadvantaged women and girls, promoting their overall wellbeing, improving their access to basic human rights and reducing their risk of reoffending.

How challenging is this adventure?

This adventure is ranked 3/5. While no extensive trekking experience is required prior to registering, our adventures are specifically designed for people who are relatively fit and willing to train. The WJN Bay of Fires Trek is a physical challenge that involves trekking approximately 30 kilometres over four days. The fitter you are, the more you will enjoy the experience.

You will be well supported on the adventure, with the guides and your team cheering you on. You are free to move at your own pace and we will take frequent breaks.

How do I fundraise?

Never fundraised before? Not sure where to start? No worries, we don’t expect you to do it alone. You will have regular support from the Inspired Adventures fundraising team, who will help you make a fundraising plan to meet your target. Alongside personalised coaching, we will also send you lots of ideas and resources on how to fundraise. From online fundraising to trivia nights, to bake sales and out-of-the-box ideas, we have years and years of tried and tested tips to make your fundraising a success.

Who will I be travelling with?

We believe small group travel is better for the planet, and better for you. Our adventures usually have 10 – 20 people aged from 18 to 90+ (younger ages considered on request). You can be sure that you have all come together with the shared purpose of making a difference to others and having the adventure of a lifetime.

The group will be led by a local tour guide with expert knowledge of the region. Many groups will also be accompanied by an Inspired Adventures team leader or doctor to support and motivate the team.

Where applicable, a charity representative may also join the team. This is a wonderful opportunity to learn more about your chosen charity and their work.

Do I need to have travel insurance?

Travel insurance is highly recommended for domestic adventures, to cover cancellation, hospital, emergency evacuation and lost luggage. We advise that you purchase your policy as soon as possible. It’s up to you to ensure you have fully comprehensive travel insurance and you’ll need to share these details with our team before departure. For more information, please visit www.inspiredadventures.com.au/travel-insurance-information.

We understand the dilemma of making travel plans when the world feels unpredictable right now. You can still register for an Inspired Adventure in complete confidence, because we promise to look after you should COVID-19 travel bans affect your plans.

If COVID-19 travel bans mean your Inspired Adventure cannot go ahead as scheduled, we will endeavour to reschedule the departure to a later date to allow you still to travel as planned.

Inspired Adventures requires that all travellers are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 as described in government guidelines and ground operator requirements.

For more information please refer to the COVID-19 hub on our website.
